The Blues have currently spent more than 230 days at the top, and were only challenged briefly by Tottenham at the beginning of the season. Chelsea have been on top since August 30, and will go on to break the record if they continue to stay on top till May 13. They will set a record of 274 days if they manage to stay on top till May 24.
Manchester United hold the record for the most number of days spent at the top of the table when they spent 262 days on top in the 1993-94 season. Although Arsenal were unbeaten in their “Invincible” season in 2003-04, they were only on top for 216 days, which only ranks as sixth best. Chelsea’s previous best was spending 257 days on top in the 2005-06 season when they won the league.
On another record front, Mourinho would have liked to break his own record of most points amassed in a season, but it is impossible for him to do so this season. Chelsea set a record in 2004-05 by gaining 95 points, but the maximum they can accumulate this season is 94 if they win all their remaining games.
