According to a report from DSO Gaming, the indie title will be having ray tracing implemented just in time for when Chernobylite comes to PS5 and Xbox Series X on April 21. Unfortunately, this will only be coming to the PC version, which comes as part of the Enhanced Edition releasing at the same time. Currently, there is no further information about the specifics about how it will affect the game, but many people are already aware of how the lighting technology works.

For those who don’t know, ray tracing has become an industry standard in gaming, which improves on things like shadows and reflection. In a nutshell, it works by tracking the position of the player, and rendering the world within their perspective to be more realistic in terms of lighting. Using AI, it works by calculating how light would reflect from, say, a rain puddle, and presents that on the fly as true to life as possible wherever the player is stood or moving to. Over the years, it has become a vital component in game development, especially in AAA releases.
As for the game itself, Chernobylite has received numerous updates since launching last year. New side quests, enemies, and weapons are helping to keep the game fresh and interesting for fans. The game itself offers a rather unique aesthetic, in that it takes place in the aforementioned Exclusion Zone amidst an irradiated city teaming with hostile humans and volatile creatures.
It’s also a stunning looking open world survival horror game, using textures scanned from real life locations the game is based off. The fact that it’s coming to PS5 and Xbox Series, as well as to PC as the Enhanced Edition, shows that it is a game that is popular among the growing horror community. And with it now getting ray tracing for the PC release, it will undoubtedly make the game look even better.
Chernobylite is available on PC, PS4, and Xbox One, and will be coming to PS5 and Xbox Series X on April 21, along with the Enhanced Edition for PC.
